Meet Nazir

Hello

I live in Sammamish with my wife and three daughters and we are excited about this year’s city council election! I’m blessed to have my family’s support behind this campaign.

My family is a diverse bunch! I myself am half-Mexican and half-Lebanese and my wife is Algerian. We met in college in Seattle and are proud of our American identity. For all the bumps along the way, I know that my mixed family would only be possible here in the United States. That’s why we work hard to defend the values and civil rights that form the bedrock of what America stands for around the world when we are at our best.

I’ve been committed to public service since I was in middle school in Lynnwood, Washington. I started out volunteering after school and then, in high school went into student body leadership and diversity work.

I won a full scholarship – the Sullivan Leadership Award – to attend Seattle University for my commitment to public service and strong academic performance. In 2007, I was awarded the Harry S. Truman Scholarship for Washington State, the highest honor bestowed by the United States Congress on an undergraduate student.

As an undergraduate, I studied sociology and international relations. I went on to earn a Masters in Public Affairs and study diplomacy at Princeton University and then completed a second Masters in political science and a Ph.D. in linguistics at Georgetown University. My two-year post-doctoral fellowship focused on discrimination in the United States and Europe and ways to improve mutual understanding and dialogue.

I returned to Washington State after graduate school and worked as a political affairs expert and am now a senior researcher at a Seattle-based fin tech company that empowers immigrant communities around the world by building financial tools that address their needs.

I also currently serve on the 41st Legislative District Democrats executive committee and am a representative of the King County Democrats.

I believe it’s an honor to represent people. I take it seriously and very much look forward to meeting you and hearing from you as a member of our city council.

Thank you for your support.
